tourist, its calm waters, cool breezes and wide range of water activities
are accented by the lush jungles of the area. The City of Olongapo
provides the anchor of support for the area, and includes the Subic
Bay Freeport Zone and parts of the provinces of Zambales and Bataan.
There is a wide range of resorts and hotels to choose from in all
budget ranges. Now international tourist are becoming more aware
of the Subic Bay tourism area. The New expressway brings Subic Bay
to within 35 minutes of the DMIA International Airport at Clark.
Here we highlight the Top Subic Bay Resorts based on Seahorse Tours
and Souvenirs Customer Surveys.
There is usually confusion with the name “Subic”. It
is used to refer to the ex- navy base, to the bay itself, to the
town of Subic, the city of Olongapo, Barrio Barrette of Olongapo
and the entire area. The name Subic belongs to the town of Subic
located at the northern end of Subic Bay. The ex-navy base is properly
referred to as the "Subic Bay Freeport Zone”, which may be
abbreviated as SBFZ or sometimes without the zone as SBF. You may
also see it improperly referred to as SBMA, which is the governing
body. The Bay is Subic Bay and it also has small inlets referred
to as bays within it such as half moon bay.
The City of Olongapo is the largest city of the Province of Zambales
and is adjacent to the Subic Bay Freeport, portions of the city
border on the Bay. Barrio Barretto is a part of Olongapo City and
is the location of the majority of the city's beach front and hotels.
Subic Beach Resort
The town of Subic, north of Olongapo along the National
highway has a number of small beach front hotels and inns but few
real resorts. The best know subic resort in the area is White Rock.

Subic
Bay Freeport
 |
While
the Subic Bay Freeport has the bulk of the areas
tourism and the most hotel rooms, it has only one
Beach Resort. Many of the hotels are waterfront,
such as Lighthouse Marina, Vista Marina and Subic
Park, but they are not on beaches. The Camayan
Beach resort is the only one who can
make that claim. this upscale resort is owned by
Ocean Adventures, which is adjacent to the resort.
The hotel itself sits near the beach with ocean
views from each room. The hotel, beach and other
activities are blended into the natural environment. The
rooms are decorated in a simple elegance with a
natural and local flavor. The rooms feature two
queen size beds, |
|
cable
TV, air conditioning and a ceiling fan. The views out
across Subic Bay or looking out at the South China Sea
are breath taking even more so as the sun sets over the
mountains and the Bay. The beach is one of the best in
the area and stretches beyond the end of the resort. The
size of the beach and it distant location means a less
crowded experience and the chance to “sneak off”
for a romantic walk.
Camayan Beach Resort has a full service dive center and
a range of water sports. Tours and activites offer by
the resort include mountain bikes, kayak tours and waterfalls
in the jungle. |

BARRETTO

Arizona
International
Hotel and Resort
This 27 room hotel along the National Highway in
Barrio Barretto has to be one of the best kept secrets
of the Subic Bay area and by far the best value.
The hotel is one of the few waterfront hotels
with its own swimming beach, and has a swimming
pool that fronts on the beach. Some guest find the
standard rooms a little too small but the other
classes are very well received. The Family rooms
are great for a family or group of friends. Many
couple also enjoy the extra space the family rooms
offer. |

The
hotel features a very nice fully air-conditioned restaurant,
which serves a variety of Filipino and international meals.
Most guests however prefer to have their meals outdoors,
and the Mai Tai Bar and Grill fits that need perfectly.
The Mai Tai serves a full range of drinks and meals. Guest
can sit around the bar or around the shaded pool area.
The pool area is elevated above the beach allowing some
separation and great views. There is also a small Grill
station that overlooks the beach and during the summer
individual tables and umbrellas right on the beach. Mai
Tai has become popular not only with the hotel's guest
but also has a very good following with local ex-pat population.
The beach is very nice and clean. it does sometimes get
some overflow of people from the City beach near by.The
facilities of the hotel are nice but what really impresses
the Seahorse Tour's guest is the staff of the resort.
Our survey show that the staff of the Arizona hotel receive
the highest marks of all 15 plus properties we represent.
An Upstairs open patio with panoramic views of the beach
and Subic Bay is generally used for larger groups and
parties but is also available for individuals and couples.
The hotel is also home to the Score Sports bar. Our guest
rate this as a 3 seahorse resort and gives it 2 thumbs
up on value, our highest rating.
